How to Live Comfortably In A Small Apartment

Mumbai, the city that never sleeps and where people across the country come flocking in to chase their dreams. It all happens here but at a cost. A steep cost in fact. All you see on the television with the lavish food, houses etc. But now Mumbai gives you match box houses. Tight storage spaces where you can’t move and you feel like the walls are creeping in. Fortunately, living comfortably and affordably in a small apartment is a possibility.

Step by step go ahead and re-think and re-design the space available:

  1. Bedroom

Renting furniture is moderately cheap these days with a number of e-commerce options. What do you want in your bedroom? A bed of course! What if you could get a folding one which also translates into a couch? Even better, isn’t it? Next, a light décor can work wonders. Make use of tall decorative elements which can give the illusion of a larger space. Storage in Mumbai can always be an issue in the bedroom, so get creative with your use of the space by taking advantage of the area under the bed to stow unwanted or bulky items. Put on your thinking cap and see what and how things can be used.

  1. Kitchen

If it looks good, it will taste good for sure. What are we talking about here? Well it is the soul of the house – the kitchen! A well organized kitchen in a small apartment is always a welcoming sight. Keep the utensils and plates within arm’s length and the rest, store them over board. Keep clutter to a minimum and your brown appliances smaller.

  1. Living Room

Like the bedroom, use the same mantra here. These days a lot of furniture has built-in storage available. You can store books, bed sheets, unused clothes etc in them. This provides a perfect home storage solution to comfort without having to sacrifice space. In our previous blog posts, we spoke about how certain elements add to more space such as mirrors, use of light and so on. Make an impression!

  1. Bathroom

Lastly we come to the bathroom. Not much you can do with the smallest room of the house but nevertheless. Go simple and go monochromatic. This way, it gives an illusion of a grander room with a lot of space. For all your toiletries and other cleaning solutions, make use of the under the sink storage. If possible, install a few simple shelves for your soaps, towels, toothbrush and tooth paste.

Easy Diwali Home Cleaning Tips

The festival of lights, brightness and happiness is upon us! Go into each corridor and you get a lovely aroma of freshly made sweets, bright coloured paints and crisply ironed clothes.
Well, a neat and clean looking home is always welcoming to the Gods during Diwali. So in the midst of reaching out, it is time to get your home organised for the festivities.

Release Clutter

Diwali time is family time. But alas, over the current year homes have got smaller and smaller due to the hoarding mentality. Humans get attached to inanimate objects, one reason being, they have paid so much for it, it can be used by someone else later. Good clothing bought for a family occasion is now lying deep inside the cupboard. It was only used once. Mom may have stocked few of her masalas over a period of time, which has stained the cabinets, and old jars are now turning yellow. It is best practice to keep a few and chuck out the rest. You’ll find more space, cleaner cabinets and a sweeter celebration, that is GUARANTEED!

Vaccum and Floor Cleaning

However good you’re at cleaning and making your home spotless before Diwali, dust settles. Dust is the worst enemy and a real task to get rid of. A quick use of the vaccum cleaner over your carpet, sofa and other décor will maintain your cleanliness and a simple way to get your home organization in place. Of course, once you’re done with that, a full sweep of the house followed by swabbing is recommended, to kill the germs and make your house glisten like natural diyas.

Start Decorating

Now with all the muck taken away after hours of hard work, it is time to add life to your home. Take out your décor boxes from the attic or storage room and begin. Everyone is tech savvy these days, and e-commerce sites are attracting a lot of buyers with great deals. Make use of that, get in the new & do away with the old. The freshly bought bedsheets and curtains will bring a feeling of newness and life into your house. Set your diyas and rangoli art at the foot of your entrance and in smaller comfortable corners. They will definitely add light to your beautiful homes. Add Diwali decals to your freshly painted walls, give it a personality. Dress your sofas with new prints. There is so much one can do! A little bit of imagination and a whole lot of madness.

Minimum Is Best

Minimum is the way to go. It not only looks great on the eyes but also it will help in saving you time and effort when you repack the items. Diwali is about spreading light into dark spaces to drive the evil away, then why clutter with more clutter?

If you look online, we bet you might get more ideas on Diwali home organization. We have covered the hot traffic areas for you and hope not to have skipped a spot (no pun intended).

If you are looking at getting your home organised just in time for Diwali, visit BoxMySpace or call on 8767252252 and we will be glad to help.

Until till, have a safe, bright and pleasant Diwali with your family and friends! Spread cheers and not tears!

One In, One Out – Seasonal Clothing Storage

Whether you are ready or not, the seasons come and go every four months. We all are happy that the winter Gods has blessed us with cool weather. So soon we’ll be trading our swim suits, sundresses and flip flops for warm and cozy sweaters. But remember packing away our delicate summer clothing is more complicated than just tossing them and shoving them under the bed.

We have got for you a simple 5 step process to storing all your clothes with great ease.

  1. Sort it out.

You are well into winters and your warmer clothes have begun to surface. With that, storage space becomes an issue. Many a times due to low cupboard space, you cram up the clothes which leaves it all crumpled up. To add to it, you’re not ready to part ways with certain ‘favourite’ clothing.

You might be still deciding what needs to go and what stays. Sit down with your clothes and take your time to segregate your clothing. Make one pile that you want to keep such as (couple pairs of jeans, a favourite tee, warm coats and so on). Doing this will automatically create a “pack-up” pile which can be stored. Do also consider a ‘donate’ pile, as you know we all out grow our clothes very quickly.

  1. Wash it.

Wait, you’re not yet ready to store your clothes away. Before you do, remember to give it a good wash. Why you ask? It not only keeps your clothes smelling fresh and looking crisp but also keeps all the bugs and pests. Again remember to sort out your clothes between hand wash (your whites, expensive clothes) and your regular summer clothes that can get a quick rinse in the washing machine.

P.S. A dry cloth will suffice to clean your shoes too or a very mildly damp sponge is another option. This way you don’t spoil the material of the shoes.

  1. Fold it.

Once all your clothes have gone through the wash and dry cycle, fold it neatly right from the heaviest to the lightest. Take a leaf out of your laundry guy; to avoid creasing and getting crushed, insert a sheet of newspaper amongst your clothes.

  1. Box it.

Nowadays there are so many options to store your clothes in. If you’ve bought a new TV or a music system, don’t throw away those huge corrugated boxes. It might come in handy. But if you decide to store your clothes, go for plastic boxes. They are durable, light, reusable and pest-proof. You can also use your grandfather’s old suitcase, whatever is your fancy. Make sure you wash the containers and keep it dry to avoid your clothes from attracting moisture and pests. See to it that there is adequate air circulation inside for your clothes to breathe.

  1. Store it.

Remember all your medicine bottles or tablet strips that have this statutory message on it, “Store the medicine in a dark and cool place”? Well that is exactly with what you need to do with your clothes too. Dark closets and beneath your bed are great options when it comes to where to stash your storage boxes.
